Book a Kidlit Coaching Consultation
Welcome! If you’re looking for individualized consultation for kidlit publishing and projects, you’ve come to the right place!
Who am I?
I am an award-winning, traditionally published author, publisher (The Little Press), attorney, editor, and educator. I am the creator and host of the popular kidlit podcast My Messy Muse and the creator and host of the annual kidlit event #GirlPowerHour, when kidlit comes together on October 11th, International Day of the Girl, to celebrate strong women and diversity in kidlit.
What I offer.
I offer one-on-one consultation and coaching for kidlit creatives and small businesses in the youth literature space. This includes questions about your manuscript, marketing your already published projects, traditional publishing v. self publishing, getting an agent or book deal, and any other questions that you may have navigating this niche industry. When I started in kidlit I had many questions and I wish I had a kidlit guru to guide me. Let me be your kidlit guide.
How does it work?
Consultations are 30 mins in length. We meet via zoom or phone call (whichever is your preference.)
Order the session directly through this website.
Cost: $50/ 30 minutes.

Voila! You’re on your way to kidlit clarity.
Manuscript reviews:
If you’re looking for feedback on your manuscript, I will not do a line by line critique, but I will provide meaningful feedback on storyline, marketability, and overall revisions for improvement. For chapter books and middle-grade projects that are longer in length we can discuss direction, plot, character development, ARC, and marketability as well. For all genres you will receive tangible takeaways for improvement.
“Speaking to Michele McAvoy, on the phone and through email, was both enlightening and helpful. She answered many questions, gave me pointers, provided great feedback with my critique, and a follow-up phone call. I am thankful I was able to use her as a valuable resource on my journey towards publication.”
Business consultation:
We can discuss any questions, roadblocks, or clarification you need to keep pursuing your dream of publication. I firmly believe that your story is needed and with the right coaching and perseverance you can realize a published work.
For small businesses and publishers; as an independent publisher myself, I have experience in many facets of the publishing industry and can help you avoid pitfalls that I have tripped upon. I can assist with focus and direction to keep costs down and profits up! For years I’ve worked directly with writers, illustrators, editors, and book designers. I am also the editor at a large global publisher and have served as an account executive for this publisher as well. Finally, as a practicing attorney in NYC for 20 years I have significant business experience. I am happy to impart all that I have learned to you.
Take that next step now:
There’s a lot to learn in this industry and there’s also the internal struggles with writer's block, imposter syndrome, and fear of rejection. Having a coach in your corner can help clear the clouds to allow you to continue on your kidlit journey. As I say in my podcast, “it’s never too late or messy to follow your dreams.”
“I was blown away by the time and attention Michele gave my manuscript. I find it extremely important and useful to seek advice/critiques from other writers. It’s even better when the critique comes from an experienced, published author. She went through line by line and told me what worked, and what could use a little help. She was thorough, honest, and very encouraging. I can’t thank Michele enough!”
